The Aliceville Industrial Development Board (AIDB) is charged with creating employment opportunities for citizens of the Aliceville area.  Through marketing various industrial sites, including the Bevill-Hook Port on the Tenn-Tom Waterway, the AIDB has been successful in working to promote and sustain employment in the community.

 

The AIDB offers incentives including  reduced pricing of sites, abatement of specific taxes, and  infrastructure assistance. The AIDB stands ready to assist new and existing industries.

Transportation:

 

Over The Road - Aliceville is bisected by State Highways 17 and 14. 

                          Interstate 59/20 is located 20 minutes to the south.

                          U.S.82 is located 20 minutes to the north.

Railroad -  Railroad service is provided by Rail America which connects to Burlington Northern and other major carriers throughout the U.S.

 

Air Commercial air service is available at the Golden Triangle Regional Airport in Columbus, Ms (35 miles) or the Birmingham International Airport (95 miles).  Locally, the George Downer Airfield offers a 5,000 foot lighted runway suitable for small aircraft. 

 

 

Utilities:

  • Water The Aliceville Water and Sewer Board is the local water provider.  Source of supply is three wells with a system design capacity of 2.8 MGD.  Excess available capacity is approximately 900,000 GPD.  An eight inch line serves the Aliceville Industrial Park. 

  • Sewer – The City of Aliceville Water and Sewer Board is the local sewer provider.  The lagoon system has an average daily flow of 600,000 GPD.  Excess capacity is 500,000 GPD.  An 18 inch line is available to the Aliceville Industrial Park..

  • Electricity – Alabama Power Company is the local service provider.  APCO offers a variety of rates for industrial companies

  • Natural Gas – The Pickens County Natural Gas District is the local natural gas supplier.  A four inch high pressure line serves the Aliceville Industrial Park.   

Incentives:

 

Capital Tax Credit: This incentive provides for a capital credit to be applied to the State of Alabama income tax liability generated from a project. The credit is calculated at five percent annually for a period of 20 years. In order to qualify, a new company must invest a minimum of $2 million and create 20 new jobs with wages of $8 per hour or $10 including total compensation. There are lower qualification thresholds for small businesses. 

Sales & Use Tax Abatements: This abatement allows a company to be exempt from paying non-educational sales taxes on building materials until the building is placed in service. The use tax (machinery sales tax) abatement provides a company with an exemption on the non-educational portion of the use tax on machinery until the building is placed in service. Alabama statute allows the local governing body to grant the exemptions.

Ad Valorem (Property) Tax Abatements: This abatement allows a ten-year exemption of the non-educational property taxes on real and personal property. Alabama statute allows the local governing body to grant the exemption.

Alabama Industrial Development Training Program: This state sponsored, free-of- cost program provides services ranging from trainee recruitment and screening to job-specific pre-employment training to on-the-job training. In addition, management and supervisory training is available including Total Quality Management and ISO 9000. Mobile training units can be brought on-site if facilities are under construction.

Infrastructure Grants: Through several different programs, the State of Alabama offers matching grants for construction of water, sewer and road infrastructure. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis (jobs created, etc.) and are funded through local government agencies.
